Trawler rescued in Hauraki Gulf

A fishing trawler has been rescued off an island in the Hauraki Gulf after nearly crashing into the rocks.

The 14-metre trawler completely lost power and started drifting in towards Rangitoto Island at around 12.30pm Sunday afternoon.

Coastguard says a member of the public called to alert it of the danger because lack of power on the fishing boat meant the two people on board couldn't call.
