New Zealanders returning home from overseas are increasingly looking to use their travel experiences and time abroad for a new career in the travel industry, says Flight Centre's recruitment manager Richard Clowes.
The company has seen an increasing number of returning Kiwis applying for jobs with the firm.
Mr Clowes said last month's Opportunities New Zealand Expo, held in London, attracted even more people looking for jobs in New Zealand.
"I travelled over to London to meet up with people we like to employ - experienced independent travellers.
"Our careers website has never had so many hits since Flight Centre made a presence at the expo.
"We have had 890 applications via the website from Kiwis overseas wanting a career in travel," he said.
The launch of a new website (www.careers.flightcentrelimited.co.nz) had made it easier for overseas applicants to apply for jobs with the firm.
There was a strong recognition among expats that the New Zealand economy was thriving, he said.
The company has 35 vacancies from travel consultants to corporate and head office jobs.
"We're finding there are a lot of highly skilled, professional Kiwis looking to come home.
"The calibre of applicants is very high," he said.
Rachel Richards, manager of Nelson Flight Centre, said: "An increasing number of people are coming back because with a strong economy and summer approaching, now is a good time to return.
"So many are coming back to the Nelson region.
" I think security issues and the great Kiwi summer, especially in Nelson, are huge drawcards."
