Two climbers were rescued by helicopter this evening after they became trapped high up a mountain in the Nelson Lakes area.
The Summit Rescue Helicopter was called to rescue the Auckland pair, a man and a woman, after they become stuck on the upper section of the 2278 metre Mt Hopeless.
Using night vision gear the helicopter was able to winch down a St John intensive care paramedic, who had mountain climbing skills, to assess the pair.
The pair, who were "very cold" but uninjured, were then winched up to the helicopter about 8.30pm.
