The Conservation Department says it is seeking a manufacturer to make 100,000 new-generation traps for stoats, the main pest threat to kiwi and many other native birds.
The trap, invented by Petone artist Phil Waddington and DoC staff members Ian McFadden and Darren Peters, catches stoats and rats, Mr McFadden said, but mice and weta would not set them off due to a trigger mechanism invented by Mr Waddington
