Will Auckland Council support a walking and cycle track across Auckland Harbour Bridge?
Plans are underfoot to build bridge access for cyclists and pedestrians and on Wednesday Auckland Council will decide whether to support the Auckland Harbour Bridge Pathway's private proposal.
Over 60 per cent of submissions to the council's Draft Long Term Plan on the subject of walking and cycling mentioned the Pathway, which according to the AHB Pathway Trust is a self-funding project that would operate under a user pays system.
AHB Pathway Trust project director, Bevan Woodward, says the Pathway will have significant long-term tourism, commuting and recreational benefits for Auckland.
He says he's hopeful of the council's support given the New Zealand Transport
Association has deemed the design structurally feasible and says it won't affect future traffic.
