The V8 supercar race resource consent hearing resumed in Auckland this morning with the Auckland City Council and event promoter IMG presenting new information.
The lawyer for the applicants, Malcom Maclean, said there had been a high level of co-operation and consultation since the three independent planning commissioners adjourned the hearings in August.
After opposing the event earlier, Transit NZ and the North Shore City Council have been working with Auckland City and IMG on doing more work to find solutions to the traffic, noise and other issues.
Chief Planning Commissioner David McGregor told the hearings that the race, for whatever reason, has had a polarising effect throughout the community.
The City Council and IMG hope to gain resource consent for the event around Victoria Park for seven years from April 2006.
A number of technical experts are presenting new information to convince the commissioners to grant resource consent. Transit is due to say this afternoon whether or not it supports the event based on the new information.
The hearings are set down for four days. If resource consent is granted, the ACC will make a final decision on November 25th.
