Transit New Zealand has taken out a full-page advertisement in a Sunday newspaper in a bid to dispel suggestions the Auckland Harbour Bridge is not safe.
Questions over the safety of the bridge were raised after an engineer's report said the bridge's clip-on lanes might fail under extreme conditions.
The advert, in the form of a letter from Transit chief Rick van Barneveld to the people of Auckland said people could be confident the bridge was safe to use.
If there was any risk to motorist safety Transit would close the bridge immediately, he said.
