KEY POINTS:
The record-breaking 62-day, 3300km, trans-Tasman kayak journey by two Australians will be immortalised in New Plymouth this week.
James Castrission and Justin Jones made history in January when they became the first people to successfully kayak from Australia to New Zealand.
The pair also set the record for the longest ocean crossing by a two-man kayak.
Castrission and Jones will return to New Plymouth's Ngamotu Beach on Wednesday to unveil a plaque erected in their honour.
New Plymouth District Mayor Peter Tennent said a large crowd was expected to welcome the men.
"It's just fantastic to have them back here. James and Justin put their all into that trans-Tasman crossing and the plaque will stand there for all time to remind future generations that absolutely anything is possible when you give it your all," Mr Tennent said.
