A tramper has been winched to safety after slipping in Kahurangi National Park in the north-west of the South Island.
He activated his locator beacon and the Nelson-Marlborough Rescue Helicopter was scrambled around 6.30pm, by the Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Wellington.
The tramper was between Mt Dommet and Ugly River, stuck precariously on a rock under a steep bank near the intersection of the Karamea and Ugly Rivers.
The man had apparently slipped whilst tramping higher up the bank.
He was hover loaded on board and flown to Karamea.
He has hip injuries and mild hypothermia.
