A tramper is missing in the Hunua Ranges south of Auckland after becoming separated from his walking group yesterday.
The 36-year-old was last in contact with friends at 3.30pm when he sent a text message saying he had been delayed, police said.
Sergeant Dene Duthie said police wanted to hear from anyone who was in the Hunuas yesterday, especially in the Mangatawhiri and Waharau areas.
"Even if trampers did not see the man, information they have may assist search teams in directing their searches," he said.
He was described as being of Asian or Polynesian appearance and of stocky build. He was wearing a lightweight black jacket and three-quarter length shorts and was carrying a daypack.
