An injured tramper has been flown from the Heaphy Track after suffering head and facial injuries in a fall.
The Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter was called to the Great Walk track in the northwest of the South Island this morning after a 45-year-old Auckland woman was injured.
The woman was with a guided group and was on the last day of the trip when the accident occurred.
A rescue helicopter spokesman said other members of the party assisted her and provided initial care before deciding to call for help.
"While able to make cellphone contact with emergency services, the group also activated their personal locator beacon to assist the rescue helicopter in locating their exact position," they said.
