A train derailment in Auckland has resulted in two train workers being hospitalised.
Transdev Auckland, formerly Veolia Transport Auckland, said an empty train came off the tracks near Westfield junction in Otahuhu just before 2am.
The company, which is contracted to Aucklant Transport, said the empty train was being pulled by a locomotive and was travelling southbound to the Westfield Depot.
"The locomotive and first carriage left the track, with the locomotive coming to rest on its side and the carriage remaining upright," the company said in a statement.
"Right now our thoughts are with our two staff who were on the train - a driver and train manager. Both have had a significant shock and we are focused on supporting them this morning," Transdev Auckland chief operating officer Martin Kearney said.
