KEY POINTS:
Auckland rail passengers were late home last night - the second night in a row for many - after a points failure on the western line.
One passenger said he was waiting for the 7.08pm train but it never arrived at Britomart. Instead a message was displayed on the timetable board saying there had been a points failure between Avondale and New Lynn and trains were delayed.
No one was able to tell passengers how long the delays would be, so many left the station to find another way home.
That also proved difficult as buses to Henderson and Ranui were delayed and one passenger could not find any that were going to New Lynn.
On Monday night hundreds of people were late home after smoke forced the evacuation of 150 people from the Britomart underground station.
Passengers milling about the platform then complained about a lack of information about departure times and misleading bulletin boards.
No one was available from rail service operator Veolia Transport last night to comment on the latest delay.
