A woman escaped unscathed after a train hit her car while she was driving on railway tracks at Port Chalmers near Dunedin early this morning.
The woman is believed to be a 35-year-old from Dunedin.
No charges have yet been laid after the crash reported at 1.18am today, a Dunedin police spokesman told NZPA.
"There was major damage to the vehicle but the female driving the car was not injured.
"Alcohol was a factor and she was processed for drink-driving."
