About 200 commuters were more than an hour late to work yesterday morning after a Tranz Metro southbound train had a mechanical fault with its doors.
Yesterday's 6.21am service from Masterton to Wellington was halted and the decision was made to couple it with the following 6.48am service.
Tranz MetroManager Scott Brooks said about 200 customers were on the combined service.
"After taking some time to try and rectify the problem, the decision was made to couple with the 6.48am service and run it as a combined service to accommodate all customers.
"We apologise to our customers for the inconvenience ...
"The good news is that a mechanical assessment has confirmed that the issue has been resolved," Mr Brooks said.
The combined service departed Masterton Station at 7.53am and arrived at Wellington Railway Station at 9.37am, more than an hour later than both services were due to arrive.
