A train derailed in Dunedin today causing delays to traffic.
St Andrews Street in the central city was blocked for about half an hour while carriages were removed, KiwiRail spokeswoman Ruth Larsen said.
"At about 11.20am this morning a train coming in from Port Chalmers into our yard at Dunedin derailed just beyond the St Andrews Street level crossing," Ms Larsen said.
Around 17 wagons were left across the level crossing and further down the line and had to be cleared by another train, she said.
