KEY POINTS:
A freight train was derailed in a collision with a farm truck on a private Mid Canterbury road this afternoon.
The driver of the truck suffered moderate head injuries and had to be cut from his vehicle by firefighters.
A police Southern Communications spokesman said the crash took place on a Rakaia farm at the rail intersection with Hatfield-Overdale Road, about 2pm.
The crash had temporarily closed the main truck line and rail staff were working to put the train back onto its tracks, he said.
The driver of the train was uninjured.
