KEY POINTS:
The death of a 60-year-old pedestrian hit by a train in Lower Hutt is believed to have been an accident.
The incident occurred about 3.30pm on Friday, north of the Epuni station.
Toll Rail spokeswoman Sue Foley said it appeared the northbound Upper Hutt train collided with the man at a pedestrian crossing. The man was killed instantly.
His name has yet to be released.
