Train collides with man near Porirua

A train driver is being offered counselling and support after running into and killing a man near Porirua this morning.

The victim, believed to be in his fifties, was struck by the Capital Connection passenger train just after eight o'clock near the Kenepuru station.

All train operations were suspended on the track while police investigated.

Three hundred Capital Connection passengers had to be bused into the Capital.

KiwiRail spokeswoman Deborah Hume says it's a sad incident for all involved as well as the victims family and friends.
