A fire broke out in a train in Manurewa, south Auckland this afternoon.
A Fire Service spokesman said the train was empty at the time, but members of the public tried to put out the blaze.
There were no reports of injuries.
The fire started in the underside of one carriage, which was completely engulfed in flames.
The rail line was closed in both directions.
The company that operates the train, Veolia Transport Auckland, was unable to be reached for comment tonight.
