Heavy traffic has eased on state highways leaving Auckland this afternoon, but the New Zealand Transport Agency says roads remain busy and drivers should still consider using alternative routes to the Coromandel and Northland.
Coromandel-bound travellers have the choice of using the single-lane Kopu Bridge in eastern Waikato, or travelling further along State Highway Two before joining State Highway 26.
North of Auckland, State Highway One traffic remains heavy between Puhoi and Warkworth, state highway 16 is an alternative option.
