Traffic on Auckland's northern m'way gridlocked after five car pile-up

The lanes have been cleared after a five-car pile up on Auckland's northern motorway banked up traffic.

A police spokeswoman said all the cars have been moved to the side now and traffic should be able to flow freely.

"There shouldn't be any blockages."

She said some people sustained minor injuries but she didn't know how many.

Fire, St John and police all attended.

The New Zealand Transport Agency warned motorists to steer clear of the citybound stretch of highway on the North Shore after two lanes were blocked from the accident which happened at lunchtime.

A motorist told the Herald many vehicles were involved in the crash including one car that had rolled.
