Police say holiday traffic heading back to the main centres was surprisingly free-flowing yesterday despite a couple of congested areas north of Auckland and Wellington.
Traffic moved easily throughout Auckland's main routes. Congestion was worst near Orewa, where traffic banked up for 3km.
