A large slip has come down across a Wellington street overnight leaving it impassable to all vehicles.
Public transport has been disrupted and locals have to take a different route after the slip spread across Balfour St in the southwestern suburb of Mornington.
Wellington City Council spokesman Richard MacLean said contractors would start clearing the dirt and rubble as soon as possible.
He said both lanes of the street were closed and buses on route 21 had been disrupted.
The city was hit by a major slip a two weeks ago when the hillside gave way above the main highway at Ngauranga Gorge.
