Tractor driver dies after train collision at Orari, South Canterbury, railway crossing

A man has died after his tractor was hit by a train last night in Orari, South Canterbury.

The incident happened at the railway crossing on Hawke Rd at about 10.50pm.

A police spokesperson said the driver of the tractor received medical attention at the scene but was not able to be revived.

The train driver was uninjured.

Hawke Rd was closed for a time while the Serious Crash Unit examined the scene.

"Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing."
