Toyota has given its diesel-powered Rav4 a bolder new look to better identify the vehicle's place in the family album.
The oil-burner gets chrome accents, a wider radiator grille, new bonnet and headlights in a redesigned front bumper, part of a package to emphasise the vehicle's wide stance. New six-spoke, 17-inch alloy wheels highlight the facelift.
The profile remains the same. Inside, Rav4 diesel maintains its high driving position, interior roominess, versatility, and safety specifications.
Rav4 diesel is available with Vehicle Stability Control Plus and traction control as standard specification, as well as a full airbag package with driver and passenger front, side, driver's knee and front/rear curtain shield airbags.
The 2.2-litre diesel engine delivers 110kW of power and 340Nm of torque to all four wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox.
Rav4's Active Torque Control 4WD system constantly monitors and controls the torque transfer between the front and rear wheels.
Toyota claims the diesel Rav4 uses just 5.8 litres/100km (49mpg) while emitting only 154 grams of CO2 per kilometre.
The carmaker's Hiace range has also been updated with a special edition model.
Based on the diesel-powered ZL model with manual transmission, 100 units have been produced with the addition of interior and exterior enhancements worth nearly $3000.
This customised model features a black front-lip spoiler, large body-coloured rear spoiler, reversing camera and an upgraded audio system with a TomTom advanced satellite navigation system. The TomTom unit also supports text messaging.
When reverse gear is engaged, a clear view of the area surrounding the rear of the vehicle is displayed on the TomTom screen.
The special edition Hiace is powered by a 3-litre diesel unit producing 80kW and 286Nm and mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The recommended retail price is $42,500.
