KEY POINTS:
A toxic shellfish warning has been lifted in the Western Bay of Plenty, although it is still in force for the Eastern Bays.
The coast from Kohi Point to the mouth of the Motu River are affected.
Health officials have now lifted restrictions on the area from the Coromandel to Whakatane Heads.
Medical Officer of Health Dr Phil Shoemack says visitors to the Eastern Bay of Plenty for the long weekend will not be aware of the recent warnings.
He says it is still not safe to collect or eat shellfish from the rest of the area.
