Save A health warning has been issued for a Canterbury lake.
The Canterbury District Health Board says the toxic algae planktonic cyanobacteria has been found in Lake Ellesmere.
People and animals should avoid the lake until further notice.
The algal bloom occurs naturally but can cause respiratory irritation to humans and
fish from the lake shouldn't be eaten.
The toxin can be highly dangerous to dogs
