Council officials are desperately trying to get water restored to the settlement of Te Hana, north of Auckland.
The town has been left dry after power, which drives the water supply was cut off, as firefighters battled a massive blaze at an old dairy factory.
The factory was operating as a car wrecker's yard. Dozens of vehicles and one of the main buildings were destroyed.
Wellsford's Chief Fire Officer, Jim Bowmar, says efforts are underway to get the town's water supply back on.
The Rodney District Council is currently trucking water to the settlement, but are hoping the supply will be operating by early this afternoon.
