Tournament win comes down to countback

The Eva Egan triples indoor bowls tournament was held last weekend with 16 teams vying for the major honours, which went to the team with the most wins and ends over their four games.

At the end of play there were three teams on four wins apiece so a countback on ends was required to decide the final results.

Taking the spoils were John Mahupuka, Jenny Mahupuka and Bev Haglund who finished on 25 points.

Second was the combination of Donald Leighton, Danusia Leathem and Steve Rowland and third George Mahupuka, Marjory Mahupuka and Bruce Chamley.

The colts pairs drew an entry of six teams, of which three qualified for post-section play. Winners were Steve and Margaret Clode from Dannevirke from Murray Hume and Dillon Taylor from the Greytown Oddfellows Club.

The final came right down to the last bowl on the last end with Clode drawing the vital shot.

Round six interclub points were: Cossie 2, Clareville 12, Lansdowne 12, Central bye, East 2, Carterton RSA 12, Dalefield 2, Belvedere 7, St Mark's 7.

Overall standings: Cossie 51, Clareville 51, Lansdowne 49, Central 41, East 34, Carterton RSA 34, Dalefield 33, Belvedere 23, St Mark's 20.
