European tourists have been hit with holiday heartbreak in Christchurch, robbed of $5000 of property.
Three tourists from Germany, France and Italy parked their rental van on Byron Street, Sydenham and walked into Christchurch city for dinner at around 7pm last night.
Returning an hour-and-a-half later, they found a side window of the vehicle had been smashed and over $5,000 worth of property had been stolen.
Police say it appears the offenders lifted three backpacks and two other packs before leaving the area.
All three had their passports, credit cards and purses with them. However, the stolen packs contained the victims' hard drives and cameras with photos and videos of the last 10 months of their holiday in Australia and New Zealand.
Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the Byron Street, Sydenham area between 7:00pm-9:30pm on Friday night who may have seen something, or anyone who has information relevant to this investigation.
