A trio of tourists who went for a walk up to Kings Park, in the hills behind Greymouth, to view the sunset last evening, became lost and had to call the police to help them down.
West Coast police prevention manager, Senior Sergeant Vicki Walker, said the three women went for a stroll up the walkway hoping to take in the sunset. Unfortunately, they "went a little bit far" and couldn't find their way back.
The police went to their assistance about 8.30pm to 9pm after the women phoned to say they were out of their depth.
Ms Walker said it served as a reminder for walkers to inform someone, and to ensure they knew their route before setting out.
"It's one of those things that started off really well."
