KEY POINTS:
A mini-bus crash between Te Anau and Milford Sound may have been the result of the driver admiring the view as they emerged from the Homer Tunnel.
The bus, carrying two Singaporean families who had just begun a two-week holiday, drove off the road and down an embankment after exiting the tunnel at 8.15am yesterday, the Otago Daily Times reported.
The bus flipped as it collided with the base of the bridge causing moderate injuries to two female passengers who were flown to Southland Hospital.
Senior Constable Phillip Robertson said the driver had been travelling too fast for the wet conditions and may have been distracted by the view.
He has been charged with careless driving causing injury.
