Tourists get rude awakening

A man has been arrested for trying to steal a campervan while two foreign tourists were asleep in the back.

The German man and French woman were in the Toyota Hiace in Napier when they were awoken by an intruder entered the driver's door and trying to start the vehicle at 2am, The Dominion Post reported.

He ran off when confronted but was caught later

Rick Francis, 22, of Dannevirke, appeared in Napier District Court yesterday on five charges including unlawfully attempting to take a vehicle.

He was remanded in custody until next week.
