A German tourist saved the life of a Dunedin toddler he found lying face down in an Oamaru creek.
Police said the 18 month old boy was reported missing at around 5pm on Saturday, after wandering off while playing with four other children at Oamaru Public Gardens, The Timaru Herald reported.
The tourist, who happened to be in the gardens at the same time, came across the boy and pulled him out of the creek, senior constable Bruce Dow said.
"The tourist was there coincidently, and completely unrelated, luckily."
The boy was taken to Dunedin Hospital and discharged the next day.
