KEY POINTS:
Police are investigating the rape at knifepoint of a German tourist at a scenic reserve near Raglan.
Detective Sergeant Michele Moore says the woman was threatened by a man with a knife and raped between 3.30pm and 5pm on Friday. The woman has since returned to Germany.
The incident was on a walkway in Te Toto Gorge Lookout scenic reserve on Te Toto Gorge Rd, between Raglan and Ruapuke.
Ms Moore says police want to speak to people who were in the area on Friday afternoon, especially the occupants of two cars who were in the reserve carpark before and after the woman was attacked.
"We believe there are at least two groups of people who may have seen the woman in the reserve area during the afternoon," said Ms Moore.
"They may also have seen the attacker. It's vital that we speak to them as they could have important information that would help us find this man."
The woman was attacked on the walkway about five minutes' walk from the reserve carpark.
She described her attacker as being in his 40s with olive skin, short blond or grey hair and of athletic build.
He was driving a pale-coloured older-style sedan.
