Police have named a young British man found dead after apparently falling about 10 metres from a roof into an alleyway in Queenstown early today.
James Patrick Smith, 25, was from the county of Kent, acting Detective Sergeant Grant Miller said.
Mr Smith's body was found in an alleyway off Shotover Street, near Base Backpackers and the Altitude bar, about 1.40am.
Footprints on the roof of one of the buildings indicated that was where he had fallen from, but that had not been confirmed, Mr Miller said.
The death did not appear to be suspicious, but police would like to hear from anybody who may have been in the area between 11pm yesterday and 2am.
