An Australian tourist has died in Queenstown in front of his family after slipping on concrete and hitting his head.
St John communications manager Ian Henderson said the incident happened just off the Glenorchy-Queenstown road, near the Twelve Mile Delta Camping Ground, about 4pm on Monday.
The 52-year-old man was taken to Queenstown's Lakes District Hospital in a critical condition and died about 7.30pm.
It's understood the man may have suffered a medical event before he fell.
Senior Sergeant Paula Enoka, of Queenstown police, told Fairfax that the incident was witnessed by the man's wife and three children, aged between 12 and 17 years.
