A 64-year-old German tourist died yesterday after being run over by her husband in a car at Fox Glacier, police say.
The incident occurred at 4.30pm and emergency services rushed to the scene.
Acting Greymouth Senior Sergeant Russell Glue said it appeared the woman's husband was reversing a motor vehicle and accidentally hit the woman. The local rural nurse attended the scene with the Fox Glacier Order of St John ambulance.
Order of St John's Brian Fancourt said the woman suffered serious multiple wounds to her legs and arms, as well as internal injuries. She was transported to Grey Base Hospital by local helicopter, but died later of her injuries.
