Regional tourism organisations from Bay of Plenty, Nelson, Wanaka and Southland/Fiordland have been selected to take party in the Government's $1.2 million environmentally Sustainable Tourism project.
The three-year project is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of the Environment, and is aimed at helping tourism operators tap into the rewards of smart environmental business practice.
"Looking after the environment while boosting marketing opportunities and brand integrity is good for business, and this is recognised in the New Zealand Tourism Strategy 2010," Tourism Minister Mark Burton said.
Participation was invited from all 28 regional tourism organisations and evaluation was carried out by the Tourism Industry Association, Tourism New Zealand, and the two ministries.
