Dalefield completed a taxing weekend in the Wellington premier division men's hockey competition when they were beaten 10-1 by second-placed Hutt at Clareville on Sunday.
The loss came just two days after Dalefield had lost 5-3 to Harbour-City Tawa and while it was a comprehensive beating coach Mark Fenwick was not complaining at the commitment of his players.
Rather, he said the size of the victory was more a testimony to the attacking skills of Hutt than any lack of endeavour by his team.
The two teams were locked at 1-1 through most of the first half before a 10-minute period late in the spell saw Hutt add three goals to their tally and lead 4-1 at the break.
Hutt continued their onslaught in the second half and with Dalefield struggling to keep up with the pace of the game six more goals were scored.
"They (Hutt) were relentless?.they just kept coming at us and something had to give," Fenwick said. "They were just so slick and so quick, you could see why they are one of the top teams."
It wasn't all doom and gloom for Dalefield though with young centre half Tobyn Yeo again impressing, along with goalkeeper Orin Lockyer and Terry Waitere.
Both the Dalefield men's and women's teams are the bottom of their premier division points tables which are, in order of matches played, wins, draws, losses, goals for, goals against and total points):-
