Police are investigating allegations that a 3-year-old Auckland boy suffered serious bruising after the 15-year-old female cousin looking after him beat him with a hammer.
Counties Manukau police said he was hit "less than 10 times but certainly more than three or four" on the back and bottom in the Manurewa incident.
The boy spent a night in the Starship hospital.
