KEY POINTS:
A protest is due to be held outside the Australian Consulate in Auckland to show solidarity with protests set to take place in Canberra.
The Olympic torch relay will pass through a shortened route in Canberra today.
Protests have been planned in Canberra by groups campaigning for a free Tibet while pro-Chinese groups are reportedly busing in supporters to the Australian capital.
This morning's protest at the Australian Consulate has been organised by the Green Party and starts at 11am.
"We want to show the Aussies that us Kiwis are with them in supporting Tibetan rights as the Olympic torch passes through Canberra," said Green Party foreign affairs spokesperson Keith Locke.
The protest will run from 11 to 11.30 am this morning.
