Topless waitresses in a suburban Manurewa bar have led city councillors to move to have it shut down.
Jo's Place, in the Southmall shopping centre on Great South Rd, has had topless waitresses serving customers every Thursday night for the past six weeks.
Manurewa councillors Colleen Brown, John Walker and Anne Candy want the bar closed down because it was "tacky and demeaning", councillor Brown said.
"It's very degrading. The girls just flick out the breasts, give the guys a perve and then roll their shirt back up.
"What we saw as a family mall is now a cattle market," she said.
The bar has been open for two years, with the topless waitresses being a fairly recent addition, appearing for two hours from 6-8pm every Thursday.
Bar owner Jo Hanna said the topless nights were a "gimmick' to bring in more money and customers.
"We wanted to make life a bit more interesting and now we're very busy."
