Wairarapa squash have pulled off a major coup with the news the No 10-ranked female player in the world, Joelle King, will play a series of exhibition matches at the Red Star courts in Masterton on June 14.
King will do battle against a junior player yet to be named, Wairarapa stalwart Matt Spooner and either North Island men's champion Sam Atkins or long-time Wellington representative Willie Bicknell, who formerly played out of the Masterton club.
The winner of one gold and one silver medal in doubles at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi, King recently won the Glo Greenwich Open in Connecticut, United States, and won the Australian Open title in 2009.
She is using her Masterton visit as a lead-in to the Wellington open championships, where she will play in both the men's and women's competitions.
