KEY POINTS:
Residents at the top of the North Island have been told to be on alert for heavy rain as a subtropical low brings wet weather tomorrow.
The Meteorological Service today issued a severe weather watch for Northland, Auckland, the Coromandel Peninsula and the Bay of Plenty.
Watches are issued when it is expected the conditions may deteriorate further and require a severe weather warning.
The Met Service said Northland should expect heavy rain in the morning, with localised thunderstorms in the afternoon.
In Auckland and the Coromandel, heavy rains are expected between 6am and 3pm.
The Bay of Plenty should expect rain from Tuesday afternoon until the following day.
In all areas, there is a possibility rain levels will reach warning criteria, the Met Service said.
"People potentially affected should remain up to date with the latest forecasts and look out for any upgrade of this watch to a full warning."
