KEY POINTS:
The winners of the 2008 Woolf Fisher Scholarships for doctoral study at either Cambridge or Oxford universities were announced today.
The scholarships, among the most valuable awarded here, are each worth up to $100,000 annually for three years of study.
They were offered to honours graduates Deidre Cleland and Reed Roberts from Otago University and Joel Harrison from Auckland University.
Ms Cleland Mr Roberts are chemistry graduates and will study at Cambridge, while Mr Harrison is a law graduate and will study at Oxford.
Each will receive full payment of their fees, an allowance of $27,000 a year and an annual London-New Zealand return airfare.
This is the fifth year that the Woolf Fisher Scholarships have been awarded.
