FORMER Times-Age journalist Natalie Campbell has won the Trevor James Cup for Driver of the Day at the Whittakers classic race meeting in mid-November.
"I didn't know about it until last week, when I received the official times and results book in the mail, so it was a bit of a surprise to see my name at the top of the trophy list," she said from Feilding.
"I'm not sure what the criteria is or what I did to deserve it, except have heaps of fun and reset my personal best lap time.
"I recorded my top lap time as 1m29.01 sec ? but I was apparently 'officially' timed doing a 1m27 ? which I'm a little cautious about believing. Earlier in 2004 I was doing consistent 1m30s lap times."
Natalie drove her Capri in four races at the two-day meeting and all placings were in the top 10, including two third places. Fields were about 40+ cars.
It was a "pretty awesome" weekend and an historical moment for New Zealand motorsport too ? Whittaker's 2004 was the biggest-ever race meeting in New Zealand with just under 300 entries.
