KEY POINTS:
What's in a name? Quite a lot, it seems. Especially when it comes to naming a newborn baby.
The list of the most popular baby names registered last year has been released by the Department of Internal Affairs' office of Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Jack is still the most popular boy's name for the fourth year in a row, while Sophie is the new number one girl's name with last year's top choice, Ella, dropping down to third place.
Only one new name entered the top 30 girls list - Isla, which has shot up from last year's placing at number 50. Maia stepped up from 25th to 18th, while Isabella moved from 10th up to fourth. Nevaeh has dropped in popularity from number 38 to 59.
Other big changes for girls' names are Millie which has grown in popularity, going from 96 to 54, and Peyton which is new in the top 100 at number 87. Nikita was previously at 97, but has disappeared from the top 100 entirely.
And for the boys, Joshua has finally lost a space in the top three after many years, however James stays at number two as per last year's position.
Riley has made one of the biggest jumps and has shot up from number 17 to sixth place. Logan dropped out of the top 30 names for boys falling from 27 to 34.
George, however, slipped back into the top 30 knocking Joseph out of the last spot.
Brooklyn jumps up from 100 to 87. While Vincent was at 99 in 2007, and has now dwindled in popularity, dropping from the top 100 altogether.
