Tony Milne has been selected as Labour's candidate for Christchurch Central at this year's general election.
Mr Milne was selected from a field of three candidates. The 32-year-old is currently national manager of public health at the Problem Gambling Foundation.
"We have an amazing opportunity to re-imagine Christchurch, and I want to be at the heart of that," he said.
"To get there we have many challenges to overcome. I will be standing up for the urgent issues facing Christchurch Central now, such as housing shortages, EQC roadblocks and the need for good jobs and higher incomes."
Party president Moira Coatsworth said members and supporters were determined to bring the seat back to Labour.
